Award Description

The Fran D'Alcorn Scholarship is funded from a bequest by the late Fran D'Alcorn and offers a prestigious £5,000 scholarship to a student commencing a full-time campus Masters programme in the School of History and Cultures in September 2025. This will be offered as a fee discount.

To celebrate the significant work of our International Centre for Heritage (ICH), candidates applying to study MA International Heritage Management are especially encouraged to apply.

The ICH sits in our Birmingham Research Institute for History and Cultures and leads the way in research in sustainable and innovative approaches to heritage management. Our community of researchers are investigating and protecting globally significant heritage around the world.

We’re looking to award this scholarship to a student with ambitions to also make significant contributions in the field, to support them to progress their studies.

Value of Award

£5,000 towards tuition fees for full-time study from September 2025.

The scholarship will not be paid directly to the successful applicant but will take the form of a fee reduction at the beginning of the programme.

Eligibility Criteria

The award is open to UK and international students who have applied for the full-time campus MA International Heritage Management programme and will commence their study at the start of the 2025 academic year.

We will also consider students who have applied for an alternative full-time campus Masters programme in our School of History and Cultures, especially if you can demonstrate your experience or interest in cultural heritage.

Decisions will be made on merit based on your funding application form and on your application to study a Masters programme.

Applications for funding can only be considered alongside an application to study.

You will not be eligible to hold this scholarship alongside any other University of Birmingham funding awards.
